The weed garden from hell

Update!

So here's a bit of an update after my first 2 weeks at work! I'm really enjoying myself and I think the work I will be doing is going to be interesting and take up quite a bit of my day will make for a nice change! My co-workers are all very welcoming and have amazingly positive attitudes. Nothing like where I came from.

My after work time is usually spent in the gardens at home. The front garden needed some major attention and after sitting in it for 4 days I still don't have it completely weeded. With the heat index being around 100 degrees for the last to days there isn't a chance in hell I will be sitting out there in jeans getting it done either so it will just have to wait! I will post pictures from my phone to show just how bad it was!

The veggie garden was put in last weekend. The whole thing was covered in rocks so I spent the first hour and a half raking and picking out stones! When I left the dairy I said I would never pick rocks again, boy was I wrong! So after all of my stone raking I managed to get in the 2 sweet corns, the 2 popcorn's, the radishes, carrots, peppers and the cherry tomatoes, one round of the soybeans went in also. I am staggering the soybean planting so that they don't all come at once and I can enjoy them for a couple of weeks during the summer. All that's left are the beans, peas and cabbages that my dad requested. I really need to get on it but with the weather and the moving there just isn't time to get everything done.

I did find out that there is a farmers market in Chilton over the summer and fall. The problem is it runs from noon to 5 on Fridays. There is no space fee for selling fruit and veggies so it would be awesome to get a spot there but I can't take the time off of work. I'm considering asking if I can work 4 ten hour days and have Friday's off from July to Oct but I don't know if that's going to fly. I guess it's another goal to work towards next year! I also have a list of farmers markets in the area and once moving is finally finished I can go and scope out how they are set up and how different farms run their produce. I was kind of hoping to sell all of my tomatoes and peppers and make enough money to buy a small green house this fall, but I think I may just end up buying one and taking a deficit in the farm account. I do think fresh spinach all winter would be an awesome treat though!

I'm guessing that my goal of having a market garden may just come a half a year to a full year earlier than I expected. I'm also tossing around ideas for wholesale accounts in the area and seeing which restaurants and deli's in the community would be open to such an idea.

All these plans and so much more to look forward too!!
